Many a time we are concern about food safety. How about skincare safety?
Does effective means good or safe?
Skin is our largest and most permeable organ in our body. We have about 5 million pores on our skin of which about 20,000 on our face.
Where has the largest skin pores? The bottom of the feet.
On our face, where do you find the most pores?
Nose, forehead & cheeks
How many follicles / pores on our head?
About 100,000!
We have 2 million pores across our skin!
For food, when we ate contaminated or uncleaned food, we have a digestive system to expel out the toxic but skin it don't work the same way. Generally, about 60% of what we put onto our skin is directly absorbed into our bloodstream.
There are also other considering factors on what we apply to our body and face that can harm our body.
The chemical size of the skincare products. Have you heard of skincare ingredient being nanonized? The smaller the skincare ingredients, the higher the risks especially to our liver if the ingredients are unsafe.
The chemical concentration. The number and concentration of unsafe ingredients used.
The exposure length. How long the products stay on our skin.
The area of skin exposed. As mentioned, our head has many follicles and it is very common people colour. cover their white hair and hair treatment as often as monthly, how much and how often are you exposed to these harmful ingredients?
Also, our nose, forehead and cheeks have the most pores!
And if your skin is wounded, it has a higher absorption rate too.
Not forgetting some part of our body, the skin is more delicate than the others. The thickness of the skin plays a part too.

Although each born with unique personality, with nurturing environment, they can strive well in the right direction.
The first 7 years of a child life is important to build their foundation for health, learning attitude, characters & values. We do our best to create the exposure for them in these areas.
Thank God that our kids are easy with eating and enjoy most of the food I prepare for them to build a healthy body. I'm glad that they are free from medication for 8 years. From young, I inculcate the importance of taking more wholesome plant, fruits and vegetables and taking Healthy Breakfast of high protein, fibre and antioxidants when we break fast.
Practising sustainable habits require discipline and determination. It can be painful but it definitely gives a greater and long term rewards.
No one is perfect.
Let's strive to do our best as parent and build an antifragile lifestyle for ourselves and family.
Many a time we let the unhappiness, grievance and, anger of the past consume us and affecting our current emotion and behaviours. The present choices with accumulation to react to the past, can result in future unhealthy you.
When you are caught in a moment of negative emotion or behaviour, focus on mindfulness breathing. With consistent practise, you might notice that the ability to let go of the negativity comes easier. You are no longer focusing on your PAST emotion and behaviour but staying in the PRESENT in breathing in and out, to create a new realm of FUTURE not of your past.

Do you experience excruciating menstruation pain and discomfort?
A study has shown that about 15% of the women experience excruciating pain which affects their work and activities for 1-2 days.
Personally, I do have a few friends who experience severe pain and either have to excuse from work or feeling discomfort for several days or months and even years. Imagine your car brake has worn off and you continue driving for days and months, what will happen next ?
What cause menstruation pain? Before menstruation, our body will release large amount of inflammatory prostaglandins which constrict the blood vessels in the uterus and make the muscle layer contract, causing painful cramps. When the prostaglandins enter the bloodstream, it might cause headache, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
How do women usually cope with menstruation pain? Usually women take pain killer to reduce the pain.
Our liver is our detox organ. Singapore being a food haven, we are exposed to high processed, high sugar, oily food which over work our liver to detox. With medication on a regular basis, our liver will be overburdened and toxic will start accumulating in the body. It becomes a vicious cycle.
What are the food that fight inflammation and tame menstruation pain? Wholesome food such as vegetables and fruits high in antioxidants and phytochemicals, eg berries, cactus, acerola cherry and rose.
High fibre and protein grains and legume such as psyllium husk, oats, soy, quinoa, kiwi seed and chia seeds.
Research has shown that a plant base diet decrease body inflammation in the body. This is due to the high antioxidants and phytochemicals found in plant food that help the body to function more effectively.
Animal products do not contain antioxidants, phytochemicals and fibre and contain fat content and estrogen which trigger the release of large amount of inflammatory prostaglandins which causes the menstruation pain and discomfort.
My clients often tell me, "do you mean i have to become a vegetarian to be healthy???"
It is not the amount of junk food we eat that cause us to be unhealthy. It is, we do not consume larger amount of disease fighting food which has high antioxidants, phytochemicals and polysaccharides.
High meat diet also increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases as well as hormonal disease and cancers.

Initially i was skeptical with covid-19 vaccination however i have been learning from World Nutritional Immunologist, Dr Chen Jau Fei and Dr EE Zhang since May 2020 at their monthly online health talks on the progression of the vaccination, i grown confident in having vaccination for my family.
Having said that, been vaccinated does not means we are bullet-proof from getting covid-19. To increase the effectiveness and reducing the impact of suffering from Covid-19, our immune system is still the key to health.

1) be hydrated well
2) after the jab, you might experience possible side effects such as body ache, swelling and pain at injection site, fever, chills, headaches, tiredness, lymph node swelling(usually gets better by itself for the swelling in a week or so ) at neck or arms.
3) Do take rest and don't exert yourself in physical activities.
What did we take before we have our Covid-19 Pfizer vaccination?
My Mother in Law and hubby took the vaccination before myself and Alyssa. They had taken Nutritional Immunology food before their vaccination and experienced lesser side effect after the vaccination.
Myself, i had my 1st vaccination at 930am and late after i started to feel a bit sore on the arm till the next day late afternoon. No fever non feeling tired. I still went to work.
Alyssa, 12 years old, had her 1st vaccination at 8am and on and off felt a bit sore on her arm.

Do you know that your poo tells you something about your health? Asian Microbiome Library found that over one-third of those whose poop were analysed had high potential for producing TMAO.
That's a compound the body produces when it digests red meat, fish, eggs and dairy products which increase the risk of of death and non fatal cardiovascular diseases, a leading cause of death in Singapore.
How a TMAO diet affects you? A high TMAO diet can affect the gut bacteria and in turn affect heart health. Your gut health will affects the quality of your life, health and even your mood.
It may also link to autoimmune diseases like diabetes lupus and multi sclerosis, and condition like eczema and anxiety.

What could affect your gut health?

Stress can cause Irritable Bowel Syndrome as well as increasing the production of cortisol.
How can you maintain a healthy gut? 1. Opt for high antioxidants, phytochemicals and polysaccharides wholesome plant, fruits and vegetables.
2. Have 20g to 30g of fibre daily

Spending quality time with our 1st born over dinner at 1 of her favorite cuisine places.
PSLE is a very busy year for Alyssa . It is gonna get tougher and busier for her as she transit from GEP to normal P6 stream preparation for PSLE.
These couple of years, she dropped her favourite hobbies of singing, music development and soccer due to hectic schedule.
Lately, every Fri she has to wake up at 6am and sleep at nearly 11pm. Having back to back activities. Gosh, not sure even how an adult can cope and this is just 1 of the days.
Fri, after school, she goes for badminton tournament then rush to her Chinese enrichment, 30-45min dinner then rush for her science enrichment which ends at 930pm, in her school uniform.
Oh, today she and her school team won the match!!! I wish that the school team will complete their race to the Final and make the school proud.
In case you think we are the one packing her with the enrichment, our kids have the freedom to decide if they need extra help then we look for schools for them since they go primary school.
To prepare her for this challenging year, i have been giving her and my 2nd child, Zachary who is 10 years old, e-memories since beginning of the year. This week she had oral tests, so i added tothink for them. They will continue the tothink till the May exam ends.
With the brain food, i want them to stay more focus and concentrated during learning and give them energy to last the day.
I have also give my 2.5 year old son, Elijah e-memories too since he starts childcare in mar 2021.
As a parent, what we can do for them is give them moral support and highly nutritional healthy food for the physical and mental development. Kids only grow once and diet can greatly impact a child physical and mental development way when they are in the womb!!! Yes, you heard me right, from the womb. Elijah is fortunate to be nourished from the womb as i already got to know about the science of Nutritional Immunology 8 years ago.💓 A child diet can impact them from womb to adolescence and adulthood. Childhood obesity and health issues are on the rise too. Parents, do give your growing kids highly nutritional food, such as a high plant protein and fibre breakfast.
